The histories of the materials used in the Antonini Outdoor collection go back to ancient times. They have been used for generations in the past and are still used today in the fields of construction, furnishing and decoration.
Due to the presence of the boundary between the Eurasian Plate and the African Plate, there are several volcanoes present in Italy, and three of them are active. The biggest of them, Mount Etna, began its volcanic activity about 600,000 years ago and has been active ever since. During its eruptions the basaltic fluid, once in contact with air, cools down and forms what we know as lava stone.
The lava stone has several beneficial proprieties: It doesn't degrade nor fade, has a high strength and thus is always being used to make urban constructions and architecture creations. The ingenious combination of lava and painted decorations, in the shape of geometrical and floral patterns inspired by classic Italian culture makes it a valuable material; aesthetically pleasing, elegant and deeply suitable for traditional and modern designs.
